Manuel Kugler studied Material Science at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich ETH Zurich. He wrote his master’s thesis on the «Construction of a spray coating device for hole passivation for the production of micro thermoelectric generators». After his studies he worked as a research associate at the Micro and Nanosystems Group at ETH Zurich and as a project leader for the spin-off greenTEG in product and process development for the production of thermoelectric heat flux sensors and generators.

Since October 2017 he is responsible for the priority programs Advanced Manufacturing and Artificial Intelligence at the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences. In this role he is leading various projects involving the creation of a Swiss AI research overview, projects to improve the accessibility of data and activities to raise public awareness or to advise politics for applications of AI.
