Mr. Amr Safwat is currently the Manager of the African Multilateral Affairs at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Egypt. Mr. Safwat is Egypt’s official representative to the African Union (AU) Specialized Technical Committee on ICT (STC – ICT), the Executive Council of the African Telecommunications Union (ATU), and the Steering Committee of Smart Africa Alliance. He chaired:

The Experts’ Bureau of the AU STC – ICT 2019 – 2021.

  • The Organizing Committee of the 3rd Ordinary Session of the AU STC – ICT.
  • The ATU Working Group on African Regional Initiatives in preparation for ITU’s World Telecommunications Development Conference (WTDC) 2022.

Mr. Safwat is currently the Chair of:

  • AU Working Group on Artificial Intelligence
  • ATU Working Group on African Regional Initiatives and Common Proposals in preparation for the ITU-WTDC 2025

He has more than 18 years of experience in managing partnerships with international and regional stakeholders, designing and managing ICT for development (ICT4D) programs, formulating policy recommendations, and setting and implementing initiatives with international development partners.

He has a long history of establishing and managing partnerships with multi stakeholders on the regional and international levels especially in Africa.

He holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore and another Master’s degree in Euro – Mediterranean Studies from the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University.
