Professor Philippe Ryvlin has been a full professor at UNIL and head of the Department of Clinical Neurosciences (DNC) at CHUV since January 1, 2015.

Born in France, Professor Ryvlin studied medicine in Paris. He then completed his training with a specialty internship in Neurology, a Master in statistics and epidemiology, a Master in genetics and cytogenetics, and a thesis in Neuroscience at the University of Lyon. During his training, he had the opportunity to make several stays in renowned epileptology departments (UCLA in the United States, Montreal Neurological Institute in Canada, University Hospitals of Zurich and Rennes).

From 1994, he worked as Assistant Clinical Head of Hospitals then Hospital-University Practitioner within the Functional Neurology and Epileptology Service at the Hospices Civils de Lyon (HCL). He continued his career there as University Professor and Hospital Practitioner in Neurology from 2000, then as Head of Service in 2013. During his career at HCL, he contributed to the development of an epilepsy surgery program which became the 'one of the most famous in Europe.
